When repair makes sense
Damage is limited to one area, the roof is relatively young, and the surrounding shingles are in good shape. Flashing leaks and a few blown-off shingles are usually repairs.
When replacement makes sense
The roof is near the end of its life, damage is spread across several slopes, or you're paying for repairs every year. Widespread storm damage covered by insurance can also make replacement the better choice.
